Despite the rain and the dark, RockPit Brewing hosted a successful pop-up market featuring live music, draft beer, and craft and food vendors that attracted much of Orlando well into the night.

One popular and enticing booth was that of Dulce Spells, a local bakehouse brewing magical cakes, cupcakes and cookies with adorable, candied decorations in a variety of flavors, colors and characters.

Dulce Spells was created by Joannie Betancourt, an entrepreneur with a goal of opening her own bakery with her mother’s recipes.
“My mom was a baker for forty years,” Betancourt said in an interview at the event. “Sadly, she’s passed. My dream is to have my own bakery, so I have taken on her legacy.”
The recipes were created with all organic ingredients and contain Puerto Rican flavor inspirations like strawberry-coconut, bean-tastic chocolate, coquito parrandero, and almond goodness.
“Dulce Spells comes from the love of Halloween,” said Betancourt. “Everything is magical, it’s so good, you’ll think you’re under a spell.”

The packaging of these delicious treats is entirely original, served in little flower pots and eaten with spoons shaped like shovels. Not only are they unique and very intricately decorated, they are on-brand for Betancourt’s Instagram page, DulceSpells created to spread the word of their pop-up appearances and to make connections with other entrepreneurs in the area.

“One of my favorite things is using social media I can shoot little videos and do projects, let’s say for Halloween,” Betancourt said.
This strategy is key for Dulce Spells as they don’t yet have a solid location. It’s social outreach and events like the pop-up at RockPit Brewing that allow small-business owners to showcase their products and provide the people access to vendors.
Dulce Spells’ next public appearance is scheduled for January 12th at Collective Corner in North Downtown Orlando.
